It's not a film that's supposed to break new ground, just a great film based on the real life of Anthony Robles. I think Ben Affleck did a good job on this one!

A decent little film with some good performances but doesn't break any new ground in the genre.

Not breaking any new ground but it's a well paced inspirational story.

Mid enough movie, which is disappointing with material they had.

Issues with pacing etc. Very chessy at times.
Very predictable as well( just have someone say something like doesn't matter if you win or lose the last fight as a winner for what you did etc to at least at some doubt). Also lack of any sign of how he improved or then training hard in gym.

Mother crazy career improvement was added like it was a oversight at end.

In short it's spent too much time on family drama and bot enough on the sports side akalike rocky.

Edit. Robles wasn't 2nd in his 3rd year like movie. Also the person he beat was 1 time champion when he fought him ( won as freshmen). He actually came back and won again the year after to become 2 time champion ( got injured in his 4th year)

So they're taking real people, making up records and results? Cool. 6/10 just because of that.

I usually like sports films despite their general formulaic nature. But with an inspiring story like that of one-legged wrestler Anthony Robles, who fought his way to the top against all odds, you could have forgone a couple of clichés. Overall, the result is okay, especially thanks to a solid performance from lead actor Jharrel Jerome. But for me, the film didn't really connect with me either in the private drama or in the ring sequences and training montages. In the end, it's a pretty generic movie that won't leave a lasting impression on me.
