I liked it. The action scenes were great. The movie tries to be a unique bend of trying to include Valentine's themes with the rest of the story. Unfortunately the V-Day stuff is the best part of the story. The rest of it is just getting the players together for the next action sequence.

As a result it doesn't flow well. It doesn't unlock smoothly. A film story doesn't have to completely explain A before getting to B and then to C. Of course you can save some stuff for the final reveal, but this movie felt disjointed at times. Which is a shame because Ke Huy Quan is good. He's really sinking into his stereotype of a man who believes in love and friendship. He's practically a shonen Anime character. It's adorable. It's almost enough to make you see past the fact that his love interest is 20 years his junior.

I mean there is a long and storied history of Asian Men and Black Women together as love interests (Romeo Must Die, R&H's Cinderella, Lovebirds) and I support carrying on that tradition. It's just apparent that Rose is too young for Marvin. That said if this was the worst issue in the film I'm not sure I'd even mention it.

The film also had some excellent co-stars. Rhys Darby has been fun to watch and makes me want to rewatch Flight of the Conchords again. Sean Astin usually does good work and he's got a tiny role but he plays it well. Marshawn Lynch is kinda goofy but intentionally so. When you consider how much work goes into acting intentionally it shows just how hard Lynch has been going on his craft. We could go on and on with Daniel Wu and Mustafa Shakir and a few others.

The two dollar review is to turn of your brain a bit and enjoy some great fight scenes with solid humor. I sincerely hope Ke gets to do more of this.

Liked this a lot. Kind of a funny, sarcastic and lighthearted but a good action thriller.

'Love Hurts' is one I highly enjoyed, thanks to thoroughly entertaining action, a good cast and a nicely paced 83 minute run time. There are things that can be classed as issues, for example the internal monologues are iffy and it's perhaps a tad over sentimental in parts.

Those aforementioned things aren't a big deal for me though, like at all. I'd recommend this and would happily revisit it, I'd imagine the rewatchability is pretty high. The pure action is great to watch, there is some top stunt work on show. It's super satisfying to see unfold.

Ke Huy Quan brings a strong lead performance, as he is supported competently by Ariana DeBose - who has been extremely busy this last year or two, not that that's a negative as I do enjoy seeing her. Daniel Wu, Marshawn Lynch, André Eriksen and Sean Astin are decent too.

Mustafa Shakir is the best behind Quan/DeBose, probably the best character overall in terms of the look, body language etc. Also, is it just me (most likely) or does he look/sound like he'd be a perfect Scar from 'The Lion King' - I can't unsee it. If Disney ever go 'Cats'-esque shudder, he's their man.

It makes little sense and is too silly in certain moments, granted. However, I had the desired amount of fun with it.

Doesn’t reinvent the wheel on Action, Romance, or Comedy. It throws all three into a mixing pot and comes out with something very edible! I recommend at least watching once in theaters.

Worlds most deadly bobba straw! Some great fight scenes with plenty of humor interwoven. There is a couple of lulls, very cliche, and it wraps up very quickly but I think it’s definitely worth a stream when it comes near you. Marshawn Lynch should also get some credit for drastically getting better at acting!

Love Hurts (2025) - ❤x7

This was a fun action romp!
We get to see a 2-person Goonies reunion and Ke Huy Quan kicking some serious butt! He's a bona fide Tae-Kwan-Do martial artist - who knew.
Worth watching if you like Quan or fun action movies.

How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

It was a fun movie. Basically it's what you get if you threw an action, love story and a comedy movie into a big bowl and pulled out something enjoyable. I also liked that it was short. Definitely didn't overstay it's welcome at 1.5 hours
