Seven Winters in Tehran

After seven years in prison, a female student in Tehran is hanged for murder. She had acted in self-defence against a rapist. For a pardon, she would have had to retract her testimony. This moving film reopens the case.

If your heart's overdue to be broken...
This documentary (filmed clandestinely in Iran) about a woman on death row for the crime she was the victim of reminds us that governments are machines to destroy women.
[CPH:DOX '23] An urgent performance that stands alongside the protests that have been taking place in Iran in recent months. The story of Reyhaneh Jabbari, a young Iranian woman sentenced to hang after stabbing a man who was trying to rape her, feels very current, demonstrating the permanence of the Qiṣāṣ doctrine that establishes blood revenge as the main precept of justice which on the other hand distorts the definition of victim and guilty. Although without great stylistic resources, the strength of the story is so powerful that it ends up justifying the necessary revision of this film.
