To bad to can only rate a 10. This is an easy 100! So many deep messages in this movie that a lot of people go through and a lot of people don’t see. The emotional tension is so real. I won’t ruin it for you but make sure to have tissue by your side.

My word....let me say this (because I feel like, unfortunately, some people will need to see this for my comment to have some legitimacy): although I have a been a passive fan of Tyler's works throughout, the years, I have always found things that, quite frankly, irked my nerves about several aspects of his body of works. I thought there was a sub-par quality on many levels. (This is the positive part, I promise). This film made me realize, that yes, I did have criticisms, but they were always constructive and always came from a positive place. What does one do with constructive criticism? They use it to become better and better at what they do. And quite frankly, if I sit down and look at his projects throughout the years, they have progressively built in quality. As of today, 'Straw' is Tyler's magnus opus. Although giving criticism throughout the years, I have never not been PROUD of this man, the opportunities he has created and the dedication to his craft. I forgot one of the core concepts of a GOOD artist: they never stop trying to perfect their craft. Tyler gets this. Tyler is a true artist. I recognize this now. And for not recognizing it sooner, I apologize to this man.

Both Taraji and Sherri gave standout performances and I equally enjoyed Teyana as well. The elderly diabetic woman touched me as well. Overall, great film, great casting choices and all involved should be extremely proud of what they contributed in creating.

Taraji Henson delivers nothing short of an acting tour de force in Tyler Perry's "Straw," a film that grips you by the throat and refuses to let go. This isn't just a movie—it's a visceral experience that exposes the brutal reality of a single mother pushed beyond her breaking point.

Henson's performance is absolutely magnetic. Every line, every gesture, every moment of desperation feels authentic and lived-in. You don't just watch her character's downward spiral; you feel it in your bones. The way she navigates between vulnerability and fierce determination creates a complex portrait of motherhood under impossible circumstances.

What makes "Straw" particularly haunting is its unflinching relevance. In an era where economic inequality widens daily and support systems crumble, this story feels terrifyingly real. The film serves as a mirror to our society's failures, showing how quickly circumstances can spiral when basic human dignity is stripped away.

Perry may have his detractors, but here he crafts something raw and necessary. This isn't polished Hollywood drama—it's a gut-punch examination of what happens when society's most vulnerable are abandoned.

In today's political climate, with authoritarian tendencies threatening the very fabric of social safety nets, "Straw" becomes more than entertainment—it's a warning cry. A reminder that we're all closer to the edge than we'd like to admit.

Henson's powerhouse performance alone makes this essential viewing. Prepare to be shaken.

Man, this was such a crazy and entertaining movie and can we talk about that crazy plot twist cuz holy shit! But I thought everyone did a phenomenal job cuz I was pissed off like 2 minutes into it cuz of how Traraji's character was treated, but it made me really empathize with her cuz I know lots of people that struggle being a single parent, albeit on a smaller scale, since this was obviously exaggerated for dramatic and entertainment reasons for 99.99% of parents

At first I was a bit skeptical bc Tyler Perry’s Studios has produced dramas without a very strong storyline and character development. But sweep all of that off the table, this movie is something else. It had me hooked and had me teared up. Taraji did a phenomenal job in this movie. Music was complementary to the scenes. This movie makes you think and gives you food for thought. Let it sink in. Well done Tyler Perry! :clap_tone2:
