Fascinating look at a horrible, and completely avoidable, disastrous trip under the sea to see the Titanic.

I have no idea of DSV building in the first place but when I heard carbon fibre I was instantly sceptic. Then I saw the vehicle and thought. "no way I'd set a foot in that thing!" It literally looks like a toilet paper roll blown up.

Sadly the story has the usual traits. There were so many red flags. Of course most people only raise concern after the fact or remember things differently. From what I gather from this film Stockton Rush was an egomaniac SOB who only cared for his legacy. He was unwilling or, like mentioned, at some point uncabable of aknowledging the danger.

I concur with the inquiry board. He had ample opportunity the stop the dives but this wasn't about exploration. It was a business.

And of course the irony that the Titanic is somewhat involved in showing us the limits of arrogance isn't lost.

Problem is, Stockton died with the rest on board. Even if OceanGate is found guilty I don't think they have the financial means to pay damages. Which might lead to someone ending up in jail but that doesn't bring back anyone.

And I'm pretty sure the next Stockton Rush is already planing the next adventures. Maybe some day one of those space-tourist (no, they are not astronauts) will pay the ultimate price.

Wasn’t anything ground breaking and a lot of what we knew or could assume. Good documentary nonetheless. Needed more interviews with people in direct contact with Stockton leading up to the event, but also seemed like he rewarded silence, so might never get that.
