This movie is my personal favourite. I became a true fan of Stephen chow after this movie. The best part of this movie for me has to be ms. Duan's confession after the play she planned and it was extremely romantic and desperate on duan's account. The way she cares about the monk and follows him everywhere is quite touching and fantastically performed by the actor it's Shi Qui...right ; She's so amazing.

This is THE BIGGEST SURPRISE in films this year. Never expected to be this GOOD. Stephen Chow's masterpiece. He is not in the movie but you can see his presence in every inch of this movie. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those who are into Stephen Chow's style.

This movie doesn’t know what genre it wants to be but it doesn’t it doesn’t wholly ruin it. It starts out as a great demon-hunting story with some hilarious slapstick comedy. There is also a great homage to Jaws thrown in there. The whole village joining together to get the demon’s barnacle off the baby is such a heartwarming scene. But there is also some heart dropping moments that propel our hero, Xuan Zang, into his quest for power. The second act gets pretty slow with the silly romance subplot where Miss Duan, played by Shu Qi, is trying to trap him at every corner. Although the freakin’ obedience charm bit is funny as hell though 😂 The film starts to get pretty get engaging when we meet Sun Wukong played by Huang Bo who killed it. His dancing instruction to Miss Duan was hilarious 😂 Without spoiling anything I wish the boss fight lasted longer than 2 seconds lol

Slightly disappointed. It made me laugh every now and then and you definitely recognize Stephen Chow's trademark characteristics, but it was often a bit boring. His other movies were better.
