Love this movie, it's been over 30 years since it came out and it still looks fantastic, characters are solid, story is solid, everything is fantastic. Highly recommend!

I just love this film. It is too bad the series watered down all the things that really make the story rich, like the language barrier. I also have Ra's ship. So much better than the Ha'tak. I like the Ha'tak, but love Ra's ship. It is both simple and complex. Pyramids within pyramids. It is also far more ornate and posh. I know this is movie budget vs. TV budget, but still they already had the sets from the movie...

I love the alien representation of Ra much better than the Goa'uld worms. The worms always seemed really pathetic. The grey skinned, sharp toothed alien that Ra is shown to be is far more interesting and threatening.

I always wished they had made a proper movie sequel instead of the TV series, or in addition to... Spader is amazing, though I have to give Shanks credit as he is incredibly close to Spader's portrayal. RDA did a horrible job replacing Russell, though O'Neill is a disposable character in both the movie and the TV series.

I had forgotten French Stewart played Ferretti and Djimon Hounsou played Horus. I love both of those actors. Each are wonderful in their own way.

I didn't even recognize Derek Webster as Brown. When I looked at the cast and saw his picture, I was wondering what character he was. He looks so different to me with a slightly heavier set and more mature look. He is another actor I really like.

And why the name change for Sha'uri? While I like the name Sha're, I think Sha'uri is much better. That seems like an unnecessary and stupid change.

Too bad I didn't have this site over the last thirty years. I would love to know how many times I have watched this movie. It has been a while, but I don't think it will be that long before I watch it again. So good.

This well-made film gave a solid start to the SG universe, which was a strong presence in the world of sci-fi for the next dozen or so years.

I would give this movie an 8 out of 10. It's not perfect, but good for a very enjoyable movie night!

I can't watch this without thinking about James Spader as Robert California in The Office.

II love this movie. It was at the time a surprise success. Cool story, many novel ideas, cool special effects and great performances namely by Russell and Spader. This movie has triggerd hundreds of hours of TV series on the subject, just because the basic story is so cool and opens endless possibilities for storylines. A classic.

I have read tons of negative reactions to this movie over the years, which left me expecting the worst of the worst. Honestly? I do not see why it's gotten such reactions, I didn't think it was that bad at all. I found it quite intriguing and actually kind of a fun watch, sure it's not a masterpiece but I have seen a lot worse movies than this one, it's probably one of the most "overhated" movies I've ever seen. Hell I think I'd re-watch this over 2001: A Space Odyssey any day.

7/10
Good
but only because of
Stargate SG1 and
Stargate Atlantis
(Forget the crap that was Stargate Universe which was that bad it got itself cancelled halfway through the second season.
and I'm not going to include Stargate infinity or origins.
(do I appreciate this movie.....always,
do I love this movie.......not anymore.
This Movie is not aging well and with each passing year gets more and more
of a grind to get through,
Especially the unrated extended cut that I have just watched to which I found myself nodding off and had to keep rewinding it back to the parts I was missing. It's a shame because when this first came out back in 95 I bloody loved it but we have come so far from this basic put together not just in Movies but tv shows as well.....cough
star trek discovery over 8 million dollars per episode
which is a flawless Masterpiece of a show.
Stargate is one of those rare occasions where the tv show far surpasses, out shines and out does the movie in every single way.
It's sad to say but everything about this movie now is so outdated and it's only going to get more so as the years roll by,
i'm just not having as much fun
as I use't too.
X final thought
This movie would be more of
a 5/10 if not for the
2 phenomenal tv shows
and the two outstanding
connecting movies that
spawned from it.
Now
It's on to bigger and much
more Awesome Stargates,
Stargate Children of the gods final cut
Stargate sg1
And Stargate Atlantis
(both movies from the
tv show, Ark and Continuum
all on blu ray boxset
Now we are talking proper Stargate....Hella Yeah

Is this a _fun_ movie? Yes.
Does the script make _sense_? Kind of… not really.
Do the visual effects _hold up_ in 2021? Not even close.
But the _premise_ is interesting enough that I can see how it became a television franchise. That'll be next on my watchlist.

It's a real trip seeing James Spader in this goofy role.
