The Lovers on the Bridge

Set against Paris' oldest bridge, the Pont Neuf, while it was closed for repairs, this film is a love story between two young vagrants: Alex, a would be circus performer addicted to alcohol and sedatives and Michele, a painter driven to a life on the streets because of a failed relationship and an affliction which is slowly turning her blind.
A unique approach to a complex relationship in a story that portrays characters living in degrading situations on the streets, marked by frustration and self-destruction. Loneliness brings them together, initiating a connection that follows intense paths. Director Leos Carax builds a scenario of romance amidst degradation, revealing, deep down, a toxic, abusive and possessive relationship. This dynamic is enhanced by the outstanding performances of Juliette Binoche and Denis Lavant. The movie features some of the saddest and most disturbing moments, leaving a heavy sense of unease.
