This is an amazingly brilliant movie.. the cinematography and acting are fantastic. It's something like dostoevsky's The Idiot in theme / plot, and it's difficult to imagine that it wasn't inspired in part by that, but it is definitely a different and more modern narrative.

Really great, it's a shame as of this posting that it has 0 watchers, 0 plays, and 0 ratings here.

Uneven, even odd at times. Bergman's character works to absolve the guilt stemming from her dead son by doing some good in the world, flirts with Communism, and then ends up institutionalized. It's sort of grim and just doesn't work all that well, but Bergman has a way of lighting up any scene she's in. It's a beatific performance, just a shame the rest of the movie doesn't quite hold together.
