Lee Brown Barrow Movie Buff

A tad overlong maybe, but still a worthwhile film. Some would call it timely but that would be wrong, because what Gloria spoke about has always been timely. The film falls down a little with its biographical tropes but its hard to escape that trap given the nature of the film. Still, Taymor injects life into it with some wonderfully surreal moments, so its more engaging than similar films that dig deep into feminism's past.

The budget of this movie was $20 million, while the Box office revenue was $30,940 (according to Wikipedia).

I guess that shows how many F@%$s people had to give for a Gloria Steinem biopic in the year 2020. I mean the entire Westen Civilisation is reaping what they sowed during the 1960s and onwards. Those people are literally being replaced from their own countries thanks to low birth rates and all the other great ideologies that came up during the 60s and 70s. This movie covers Gloria Steinem's involvement as a key figure in that "emancipation" era.

Don't get me wrong. The story is told beautifully and creatively (Ex: A bus full of Glorias of different ages). Both Julianne Moor and Alicia Vikander played their roles well. This movie does have its uses as a historical biopic, for educational purposes. However, I'm certain the creators expected a different outcome when they made this movie.

What probably could have been a great movie is molested and completely destroyed by ill performed time jumps and dream scenes, it made me loose interest about half way in.

Such a terrible waste of story and talent.

[FF Gent] A biography that vindicates the feminist struggle of Gloria Steinem through four actresses. The director presents a dynamic biopic, structured in jumps in time back and forth. The best thing is the creative freedom, through those passages that expand the message through animation or parodies of male arrogance. An achievement that is completed by the good performances of Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander.
