Cast a Deadly Spell

1940s horror noir, set in a Lovecraftian world, with magic, gangsters, gremlins, and zombies on the loose, Fred Ward as Detective Lovecraft.... I mean, all of these things in any 1 movie, it's amazing it's not just a dream made up, but no, it's real, and it's extremely more entertaining than any one movie with all those descriptions should be!

Great matte painting backdrops, beautiful sets, a whole slew of great actors. The plot gets a little thin towards the end but it's super fun to watch, and you can tell everyone had a good time making it.

7.25 / 10. I had no idea Martin Campbell also directed the amazing Edge of Darkness series.

All these years later, this film left an impression on me. The first 30 minutes or so are great, economically building the world for the rest of the film, but the actual plot can't live up to the initial promise.

Alexandra Powers character, yeah that's an old looking 16 year old, most college aged girls look younger than that.
