This movie is a perfect example of how a viewer can learn to enjoy a movie for what it is. This movie is a little rough around the edges, and the metaphors can be a bit heavy-handed at times. Some of the dialog is atrocious, and there was a fair amount of camp. That said, I loved the hell out of it. First, it has a charm that just can't be denied. I loved the characters and I love feeling like I am a part of their world for even the brief time spent watching the movie. There is something to be said for having a move wash over you. Second, the acting is fantastic. Walken is his normal awesome self, but it is Blount that is the emotional center of the movie. I had no idea that she had these kinds of chops, let alone being able to pull off the accent. To see her spirit take over towards the end of the movie was very satisfying.

I also think that people missed the fact that this movie is also a bit of a quirky dark comedy. It is very much a drama, but there is a playfulness available to you, if you want it. If The Banshees of Inisherin and LA Story had a child, it would be this movie.

There's something really likable and wholesome about this little film I've never heard about. It honestly ranks as one of the best romance movies I've ever seen? The pacing was nice, the acting was on point, the characters relatable. There isn't a thing I would change. It was really quite well done.

It provides the viewer with an interesting introspection on generational cycles and how tradition and familial responsibility can affect people, their emotions, and their perspective on their lives.

But to put it more plainly, it's the story of two regular people with flaws and faults, and how they (may) eventually make their way to each other. I think the genius of the movie is here. There aren't cheesy lines. The way the characters act and speak feels real. Like it's a story unfolding before your eyes... Anyway. Surprisingly, I would recommend anybody watch it. It's not too "lovey dovey", and it's not too "rom-com". There's a balance of elements that just struck me as perfect.

My only complaint, is the timeline gets hard to follow as they skip through some life events to start, and at the end there's definitely some kind of time vortex where all the characters from all timelines are present. And that's kinda weird lol. But overall, great movie.

This is definitely a “love it” or “hate it” movie. It helps to remember it is an adaptation of a stage play (expect narrative dialogue) and that John Patrick Shanley loves creating eccentric, stereotypical characters (MOONSTRUCK and JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO). So, settle in for a bizarre ride through an over imagined Irish countryside. It is worth the creeping pace of the first 2/3rds of the movie to watch Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan emotionally dismantle everything that stood in the way of their characters in the final scenes. I’m not sure lesser performers could have pulled it off. I give this film a 7 (bizarrely good) out of 10. [A Strange Romance]

The movie has been criticised for Irish stereotypes and dodgy accents. But the film’s biggest fault is the dialogue which is among the worst I have heard all year. “I think I’m a honeybee” ranks alongside the gobble gobble speech in Gigli. What the hell were these talented actors thinking when they agreed to sign onto this?
