Yes it does start a little bit slow but the characters carry a excellent realism to them that engages you into the story. Kate Winslet is incredible. The daughter part is tick the box of today's culture which is the only let down in this great TV series.
This is one of those rare shows that you can't wait to see what happenes next. I loved every second of it. If you haven't seen it yet, please do, because it's worth it.
The characters act and talk like real people. This is super rare nowadays. I really liked and appreciate that.
Halfway through the last episode i figured out who the real killer was. But the whole season kept me guessing.
I like Kate Winslet, but I am not a superfan. This series elevated her in my mind to superb/awesome actor. The story is well thought, well writern and well directed. The cast does awesome work and I recommend this to everyone that likes mystery criminal drama. The pshygological play helps the series a lot. 10/10 for me.
Need a lot more of this Mare
I was holding off on watching this series despite the high marks given by critics. It was good that I decided to finally watch and got to see a great performance by Kate Winslet. The story kept me engaged the whole time up until the end. This is a great HBO series.
Absolutely fucking perfect. Highly recommend it.
This is a cracking good show. Don’t miss it!
of course it is a "TOTALLY NINJA"

I was unsure of what to expect of this series. While I have enjoyed a few movies/shows featuring Kate Winslet, I am not a follower of her career or work. However, after watching this series, that will probably change! This is set in a small town in Pennsylvania, where a local detective grew up. Everyone in this working-class town knows everyone, including all their closet-skeletons. It's a who-dun-it with several twist & turns; a few unexpected. None of the characters are clean-cut and "wrapped with bows", just like real working-class people are not. All have their flawed relationships with family, friends, & co-workers. I'm sure folks from Pennsylvania will not agree, but from a person born & raised in the South, the entire cast nailed the Pennsylvania dialect - especially Ms. Winslet. The writer/creator wrote a great story and did an excellent job of bringing it to the screen. But it's the actors that make you believe you are watching real events that took place in real people's lives that caused real pain and suffering, as well as real happiness....sometimes. Every episode left me wanting to know more of the story.
I would highly recommend this series for anyone that enjoys a good police drama that involves personal, background stories of the characters. It is not a "shoot 'em up, macho-police" drama nor is it a really gory, bloody show. It is a highly entertaining, very smart, realistic show - worth every minute of your time.
Kate Winslet will definitely receive Emmy nominations for this show......as she should.
