Dexter: Original Sin

In 1991 Miami, Dexter Morgan transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can't be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements' radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

Started watching without any expectations while hating the previous reboot. DAMN this is a good one. And the main actor nailed the role.

Some folks might not get the show’s plot and skip it. This one focuses on Dexter’s childhood and doesn’t pick up where the last Dexter New Blood series left off. As for the show itself, I think the story was told just like it was in the previous Dexter series. I didn’t find any extra or unnecessary episodes; it was almost flawless!

I am a Dexter fan, and willing to overlook some of the things that are bad in this milking of the IP. Like the Deb actor is really awful. I also think the writing could be better.
With that out of the way, I do love young Dexter , Harry, Baptista and Matsuka, also having Buffy is always a plus :-D.

I didn't expect much of this, but I am enjoying it, liked the first 2 episodes very much. Hopefully this ends up being a nice setting to the reboot Dexter: Resurrection.

The original Dexter, was a very good show, a bit short, 4 seasons, the second, the reboot, ended very dumb, and does not comes near the original level of writing, damn, why, they can act, but the writing. They fucked it up so badly. But this one looks very well done, for now... Let's hope they manage to come close to the original Seriers, that so many people loved to see, for as long as it was running.

The casting for this show blew me away. You can tell the actors really studied their characters from the original show down to the minute facial expressions and mannerisms. Season 1 very much feels like the OG Dexter. The police captain ended up being one of my favorite Dexter villains. Hope they keep up this level of quality in future seasons!!

I had such low hopes for this series. I am so extremely positively surprised.
Watched the first 5 or 6 episodes non-stop. Loving it.
Shout out to Patrick Gibson who did a stunning and totally amazing job at picking up old Dexters little facial expressions and things that made M C Hall his character so charming AND scary at the same time.

I was not too much of a fan of the girl portraying Debra, but she is a very good actress putting that same type of 'left out' and 'not understood' type of vibe from Deb. Molly Brown surely is no Jennifer Carpenter, but she does have a special kind of charm. Also liking Christian Slater in his role.

On the side of wokeness - oh wow big surprise, there's a gay. Of course there needs to be one. Sigh. Also : all the really really bad guys are all white males. Sigh x2. Though it fits with serial killers being usually profiled as such. But yeah, it is being laid on it a bit too thick like even the cartel hit man, etc.

But - still - loving this series. It's any fan's dream becoming reality. A new M C Hall Dexter incarnation - younger, but all so recognisable. It's like going 20 years back in time. 6 episodes in - I'm really very happy with this.

The best TV show of 2024/2025!

I was unsure about this show and a little bit suspicious too, because:

1: Origin stories are usually “meh category” in my opinion. Writers usually come up with origin-prequels when they’ve completely run out of ideas to continue the main story. So, it’s usually not a good sign when an “origin of the…” comes out. Most of them are pretty bad and disappointing.

2: “Dexter: New Blood” was so incredibly bad, that I couldn’t believe it’s even possible to make a new Dexter-show after that, which would be better than unwatchable.

But “Dexter: Original Sin” is not just watchable, but brilliant too! With each episode I liked it even more. It grew on me pretty quickly. After watching the season finale I realised this show is maybe the best show of 2024/2025!

It’s full of suspense! Great twists! Great writing and (this was a surprise*) great actors too!

*At a first glance in the first episode the cast seemed awkward and weird to me:

- The young Dexter didn’t seem as authentic as Michael C. Hall. He also didn’t seem to be a very good actor. But after watching the entire season, I have to say he’s a VERY good actor and he’s totally okay for this role. More than okay!

- There are a lot of lookalike actors in this origin/prequel show. At first I thought “These guys CANNOT be good actors. The filmmakers chose these lookalikes just because of their appearance. But I have to say they are very good actors too! The three lookalikes that I’m talking about: - Masuka: The actor looks very much like the original, older actor that played Masuka. His voice is almost the same and his weird laughter is (weirdly) identical. 2 - LaGuerta: The younger actress looks almost the same as the one in the first “Dexter” show from 2006. She behaves like her, moves like her, even her facial expressions are almost exactly the same. 3 - Angel Batista: With this actor I found the resemblance to the original one actually creepy (haha), because this younger guy looks exactly like if the original, older actor travelled back in time! He looks 98% the same, body-language the same, facial expressions 99% identical. This guy (the name of the new actor is James Martinez) is either an accidental doppelganger of the original actor or he’s one of the greatest actors ever! Because I’ve never seen such a great expression of someone as good as the way Martinez plays the role of Batista!

So, this show was a great surprise to me. It became my favorite show of the last two years, because I’m honestly telling you: it brings back EVERYTHING that was good in the first “Dexter” show in 2006.

If you were also disappointed in “Dexter: New Blood” (because I hated every minute of that !%?*#), give this new origin story a chance! You’ll be surprised how brilliant it is!

I really hope there’ll be more seasons of this. Many-many more seasons!

I love it, original show runner is back and everyone is nailing it. It does the original 4 seasons justice in my opinion, and the actors for Dexter and Deborah are perfect.
