Great watch, chaotic comedy. I thoroughly enjoyed watching each episode.
The Studio feels like a show from yesterday, an episodic sitcom that isn't too fixated on developing overarching plotlines but instead delivering laughs. And it delivers plenty. While there is a sharp cleverness that explores the state of the film industry, it also has plenty of silly slapstick comedy as well. The first episode feels especially intelligent in its skewering of the balance between art and commercial interests. The follow-up episodes don't always feel as hard-hitting as that in their satire but still are just as, if not more, hilarious. This allows the show to feel designed for and made by cinephiles while still reaching a broader audience. And as a cinephile, there was so much to appreciate, from its discussion and usage of film techniques to cameos galore. Its very form is part of the larger conversation it is having. The thing I appreciated the most is that all the actors have so much personality but are not bogged down with this need to inject drama and try to build the story into something larger. The storylines that continue across episodes are minor and never overtake the episodes themselves. This approach has been lost in the streaming era, but it's clear how much better it works for pure comedies in this show. It's just pure, sheer fun and a joy to watch, especially if you love the movies.
What a thouroughly enjoyable and fun show. The cinematography, the music, the jokes, the cameos, the cast!! It all comes together perfectly to make smthng that shows what everyone believes hollywood is like. If I ever thought about how holywood works, this is that exact version but x100 more fun, and honestly with less drugs involved than I thought. 9/10, gime more!
Fantastic first season of a brilliant new and excellent written comedy, chaotic and a mess in lines and situations.
"Abandon hope, all ye who enter here"
Yes, it is that bad.
I enjoyed the whole series, but the 2 part finale wins it for me. Especially episode 9. Probably the funniest thing I watched in awhile.
