As a fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories ever since I began reading them many years ago, this series is by far the best screen adaptation. The casting of Jeremy Brett as Holmes is pretty well perfect, the production values, scripts and attention to the details of the era in which it is set are very high & the result is highly watchable.

This is true even of the presentation of lesser entries, particularly those in the Casebook.

I have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending it.

Fantastic series, I often go back for a rewatch. Jeremy Brett is without doubt the best Holmes, and Charles Gray is a phenomenal Mycroft. Both Watson's are excellent, but of the two I personally prefer David Burke to Edward Hardwicke (even though the latter had a longer run in the role).

If you want to see Sherlock Holmes done right, this is what you need to watch. It's just a shame there isn't more episodes.
