3Below tells a great sci-fi story alongside one of the best depictions of immigration stories seen on TV. The series integration with Trollhunters also should be used as a template for universe building.
An unparalleled imagination, Guillermo del Toro's is master storyteller and I'm enjoying his projects across genres. This is the second story arch for the TALES OF ARCADIA which began with a triad series called TROLLHUNTERS and will close with a triad series called WIZARDS giving us 9 seasons of Arcadian tales. Once again, I feel unqualified to speak about this genre which seems to be somewhere between Child and Young Adult SciFi/Fantasy, but I'm finding that I'm not the lone adult following this project. Again, del Toro has attracted stellar voice talents: Tatiana Maslany, Diego Luna, Glenn Close, Hayley Atwell, to name a few. I particularly enjoyed the crosssover plot with the Trollhunter story line as 3Below begins its timeline in the third season of TROLLHUNTERS (you really should watch TROLLHUNTERS as well, although it has some pretty silly bits, which probably appeals to the younger audience). I give this series an 8 (great talent and imagination) out of 10. For a young audience it may be an 8 or an 8.5 out of 10. [Animated, SciFi, Action, Adventure]
I just want to say, HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THE CASTS HOLY GOD!!! AWESOME SAUCE!!!!! Seriously tho, I learned about this show when I saw Jennifer Hale's name as Cinderella in Ralph Break the Internet, and I'm curious what other movies she's in, and I found this and wow, I'm glad I did. Now I need to watch the Trollhunters
Let's say it starts a bit derivative, then it keeps growing.
The meeting with the Trollhunters in few episodes later in the show
also helps. It could be made a bit better. But it is entertaining nonetheless. To wait for the final episodes is sure worth it.
While never reaching the emotional highs of Trollhunters, 3Below: Tales of Arcadia still manages to beat Trollhunter in being more fun and not overstaying its welcome. The characters play off each other amazingly well and, I can not stress this enough, tells its story in the perfect length. And every actor does a perfect job.
Also, Steve and Aja are the cutest TV couple and I cried every time they came on screen.
Starts well enough, even though its noticeably more children oriented than Trollhunters. Still, a lot of potential that never goes anywhere. Season 1 is pretty good, but second season is a mess. They can claim all they want that they always planned only two seasons, but its painfully obvious that they became aware around half way into the season that its gonna get cancelled so they stuffed season and a half of plot into 6 episodes. Unfortunately, that means there's no character development or time to reflect on things that happen. Its just a blur of action as major plot points come and go within minutes. Blink and you'll miss it... You won't be missing much as most of of those amount to nothing and it becomes obvious there is no time for major shifts in the story as the show just sprints towards finishing line, one that was obvious and visible from the start of the season.
I would also like to reflect on animation. Trollhunters often vowed with its texture of trolls and details like hair. Akiridons on the other hand have very smooth texture, they use semitransparent materials and have a faint blue glow. All that amounts to a very unimpressive look that feels very low budget. Trolls are in here too and they look as impressive as ever.
Not too bad but after watching s2e3 as the mother ship says
'I will play it in a loop' answering the queen in line's question 'are you recording this' regarding to Varvatos Rex's apology
so this is a big irony that the show is also in a loop. So easy to predict the end of any episode after watching few. I'm bored asf
this it's a glorious adventure!
