What an awesome, intense film. You don't even notice how quickly the time passes. The film captivates you completely, and you forget everything else.
What an awesome display for a military movie. Basically plays out a live action scenario of a operation in Iraq that is guided by actual veterans. It is not a normal plot movie as it basically starts off right away in the middle of a mission and plays out all in one location as they are Squatting in a house in an Iraq war zone and get ambushed, and it is a very intense edge of your seat action packed story of how they got to get out safely. Was very enjoyable to see the detail of all of the tactics that the US military uses in combat and radio communication to have everything syncing as one great war machine. The chemistry interaction between the team members was also enjoyable to watch.
It was realistic, they didn’t make it cute or pretty, they actually showed us the reality of what war really is and made it to become one of the greatest war movies to actually be made in all time 🔥🔥
Another good movie from A24 studio
War is Hell
in all honesty i can say that i never want to watch this movie ever again. that's not a bad thing.
Even more powerful than I expected. The juxtaposition of silence with an absolutely maddening cacophony of sound is an amazing feat, and left me breathless at times (and once virtually jumping out of my seat). I want to watch it again for the detail, because the visceral experience had me fully absorbed the first time through.
**"Don't leave my arm behind."** Extremely uncomfortable watch. It's a tense, overwhelming, realistic glimpse into modern war. Unbelievably well-executed with overpowering SFX and disturbing imagery. Truly masterful cinema, pure chaos. _Must watch for the experience (not the story)._
Didn't know what to expect from this, all I knew was that this film was flying under the radar and was an A24 war movie so I had to see it.
I thought this movie did an excellent job of being faithful to the memories of the soldiers involved. It felt extremely realistic (from the dialogue, to the sound design, to the pacing) because it was a real story, running in real time. Excellent cinematography. Extremely strong cast.
I appreciated the comms in this movie. There's one sequence where the air support is communicating the 2nd platoon moving into the building from the air radar, and the way the radar soldier is communicating the frog men's position wasn't perfect, it was on the fly..Felt very raw, and real.
The chaos of this movie showed the chaos of war. For example the captain ordering his man to pretend to be the CO over the radio in order to get the tank to extract them all.
Ending of this movie is superb. The jihadi insurgents walk into the middle of the street (there were dozens of them). It begs the question - who really won or lost this battle? So much fog of war. The film does not take a side, which I appreciated. It was simply a recount of events from the soldiers who were there.
This is a 9 for me as I can confidently say I am now a Garland stan. Also when's the last time A24 put out a crappy movie?
Why isn’t this trending, ah wait all netflix users. Great movie!
Edit went from 8 to 9 after i saw the ending that it was a true story.
The first thing to say is, it's loud, silent and very well made.
Set in one location, it shows the fear and indecisive nature of a particular battle.
How things can turn so quickly is frightening.
Men chewed up, battling their fear, the pain.
Basically a gun fight for survival without the gung ho and bravado of some war movies.
It was over before I knew it.
Recommended.
