Mother's Day

**After its slow start, featuring too many Troma elements, things quickly become more twisted and start to resemble seventies-era horror. Worth watching at least once, if you somewhat ignore the weak beginning.**

On the surface it seems like a D-Grade slasher film, but it's really rather brilliant. It's fun, blends heinous acts with absurd humor and still has time to be an biting social satire with fully developed, interesting characters and interactions.

I understand that a movie like "Mother's Day" is also meant to be satirical, but that doesn't change the fact that it's rather sleazy shit. The movie clearly wants to shock, but it does so in a way that I have little sympathy for. "Rape and Revenge" is a questionable horror sub-genre anyway, and the makers of "Mother's Day" lack any sensitivity. At least the revenge part of the movie is a bit satisfying, but the damage is already done by then, and it also comes far too late. On a technical level, the movie isn't exactly convincing either, so I can only advise against watching it unless you're a huge fan of this kind of sleaze.
