Boy this movie was INSANE. I had no idea what I was in for, and by the end of it I'm not sure I knew what the hell I had just watched, but I loved it. I immediately watched the making of afterward and will be watching with the commentary track next so I can get some insight to what was going on, but I absolutely loved it. Great effects, beautiful cinematography.

There are movies that punch you in the gut, and then there’s Possession—an absolute nightmare that not only shatters reality but also the boundaries of your understanding. What begins as a seemingly simple drama about the end of a marriage quickly transforms into an intense, almost supernatural experience that could drive you mad.

Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani deliver performances that take your breath away—especially Adjani, who embodies an emotional state so desperate and existentially painful that you think she’s about to break. Yet she holds fast as they slide into the surreal madness of the plot.

The intensity of this film is almost physically palpable. The dialogue is often like blows that dig deep into your consciousness. There's a constant unease that feels otherworldly. It’s not just about horror—it’s about the horror of alienation, of personal destruction. There are moments when you simply don’t know whether you’re watching a story about a failed relationship or a mental breakdown. But I mean, why not both? And then comes this visual and emotional overload that sets the film apart from anything I've seen before.

And all of this builds to a perfectly great finale that I didn’t see coming. It somewhat saved the entire premise for me and makes me want to watch it again, just to see if I can uncover more. But I’m also dreading the anxiety-inducing two hours once more.

Possession not only challenges logic but leaves you in a vortex of madness and despair. It defies conventional structure, and after the credits roll, a bitter aftertaste remains—a feeling as if what you’ve just seen has ravaged a part of you. This intensity makes it a unique experience that you can’t easily shake off.

It’s hard work, but absolutely worth it.

Moody, pretty sexy, confusing. Dark, violent, full of characters who are unlikable. Shotten handheld long takes no study. Cam intimate almost realistic a bit dated in a sensibilities, but accessible is a filmmaker, an instructive and how to make effective use of good acting and cinematography, all done in camera. Camera. When I say sexy, I mean in a very gross way. 3 and 1/2 out of five stars

Intense and hyperactive like an action movie and funny like a comedy but yet it's absolutely horror. I was laughing and clapping and cheering at all the insanity. When characters lose it, **THEY LOSE IT**... Repeatedly. Pure hysterical madness! That subway scene was something else. It's shot beautifully and has amazing gnarly bloody practical effects. Although i'm absolutely puzzled as to what it all meant.

These people seriously need to calm down; don't take things so literally.
