Feels like 7 is a low score for a movie starting my Mrs. but that's about what it was worth. It's definitely a gratuitously violent grindhouse style film. But it's also a bottle story that mostly takes place inside an apartment. While the eponymous Everly leaves a few times we don't and she always comes back.

There's something to be said that for a rape revenge movie this one has a light touch on the actual assault. Taking place after it. Even the tape of it isn't seen only heard. It could have gone another way and I'm glad it didn't. The violence isn't so much horrific or gruesome as it is squeamish but didn't really stray into so squeamish you get tempted to stop the film.

This a movie in service of it's revenge plot in every where. Things conspire and work towards keeping the revenge going. But the movie isn't serious enough that it feels cheap and forced at least not anymore cheap and forced than it's genre dictates. Heck the only thing that might feel missing her is gratuitous nudity and it doesn't feel like a missed opportunity because everything fits so nicely together. The weaponry is basic. Mostly handguns and a few small blades with a few exceptions but they don't create big set pieces for the most part.

It's was a good time. I'm glad I rewatched it. I don't know if I remembered how bloody it is but I made it through.

I liked this one, very agile and violent with touches of humor.

I write a comment that I have read: "Salma Hayek dealing kicks and shots and looks good doing it"

Illogical plot, video game violence, terrible dialogue. And yet still enjoyable if you switch your brain off and forgive the film its many flaws.

“That’s a lot of dead whores.” Salma Hayek stars as Everly in this gritty and ultraviolent action film. A quaint little Christmas story, Everly, a prostitute who’s been enslaved for four years, tries to escape from the apartment complex that she’s been held captive in and reunite with her estranged mother and child, but first she’ll have to fight her way through dozens of henchman and assassins. The action scenes and fight choreography are well-done, and bring a lot of energy to the film. Yet the tone stays rather light by using black comedy to alleviate the violence. However, limiting the scope to a single apartment and a hallway gives a rather cheap, B-movies feel to the film. And aside from Hayek, the performances aren’t that good. Everly has its moments, but mostly it’s just mindless action and gratuitous violence.

A badass movie poster, a good premise, and Salma Hayek made me want to watch this. Unfortunately, it really sucked which is a shame because this could have been a lot of fun. The movie couldn’t balance the tones of drama, action, and humor at all and the few attempts at humor are very corny. The directing, writing, and acting are mostly awful except for Salma who’s doing her best with what she has to work with. Even Bear McCreary’s score is underwhelming except for his end credits music. Aside from Salma and the blood and gore l can’t really recommend this.

Everly is one the worst movies I have watched. It's exploitative torture trash in my opinion and the director should take some lessons from Tarantino before he decides to make another action flick like this. Its seemed to me like a sort of low grade "Kill Bill".

The gore and violence was too much for me. I almost never stop watching a movie, but after 40 minutes it was too much crazyness for me. Is this is what they call "arthouse" ? Or just reallife anime? No thanks.
