High quality mixture of crime thriller with film noir done absolutely right. The plot about a cop and a gangster teaming up to catch a serial killer while each of the two has his own agenda is effective enough. Especially liked how the stylized visuals worked in this film.

Don Lee was AMAZING in this movie. i love that actor so much, one of my favorite moments was when he entered the court, camera following behind him, with that OST playing in the background, aaaaaaaaaah
and of course when he finally caught the devil, AND. when he saw him again after entering prison, that smile he had? you could tell a whole story with it

The Gangster, the Cop , the Devil (2019) Review

The Gangster, the cop, the devil is fast paced, cracking thriller definitely packing a punch. A maverick cop and underworld boss join forces to catch a killer in this gripping mix of carnage and car chases in Korea starred by two engaging leads.

God but I love the way South Korean cinema takes genre films and gives them a stylish makeover. In the case of 악인전 / _The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil_, a noir film becomes colourful with neon yellow, midnight blue and blood blood red. A good story, a lot of action, and the obligatory twist... These are 2 hours you'll spend and get your money's worth.

Interesting concept, where the bad good cop is forced to team up with the good bad thug against Evil, purposely depersonalized and devoid of backstory. The stars are the actors, Ma Dong Seok is especially epic in the finale. But flirting with Western audiences has made the “Koreanness” too simple. This is only a B-movie action movie, memorable more for the way it was filmed than for the plot

Great thriller/action with good performances and pacing. The choreography is over the top but not distractingly so. Ma Dong-Seok is great as always. Would recommend!

Decent enough. Keeps you entertained. But no great shakes.

If you want a Korean serial killer movie, go for the infinitely superior I Saw the Devil (2010).

The idea of bringing together a mobster, a cop and a serial killer sounds like the perfect combo for an explosive movie, but here the execution leaves something to be desired. The plot is full of chaotic and disjointed scenes that make you raise your eyebrow more than once, such as the surreal sequence in the recycling plant. And although the lead actor, Ma Dong-seok (for whom I have a soft spot) is quite good, there are moments when his character's decisions or the script simply don't make sense.

The film has intense car chases and the fight choreography is quite spectacular, but the overall atmosphere is not convincing. We are supposed to be looking at the dark side of organised crime in Korea, but the scenes and the relationships between characters feel a bit amateurish, as if they lack that spark of authenticity.

The problem is also the tone. There are moments when a silly humour creeps in that clashes with the supposed air of tension it is supposed to have. And speaking of tension, the film doesn't have the intensity it promises; it rather loses itself in explaining everything in unnecessary detail, as if it doesn't trust the viewer to be able to understand what's going on for themselves.

A policeman and a mobster collaborate to capture a serial killer. A horrible title for a rather mediocre film, whose banality is accentuated by an unbearably childish protagonist. Not worth anyone’s time.
