An American Tail: Fievel Goes West

Some time after the Mousekewitz's have settled in America, they find that they are still having problems with the threat of cats. That makes them eager to try another home out in the west, where they are promised that mice and cats live in peace. Unfortunately, the one making this claim is an oily con artist named Cat R. Waul who is intent on his own sinister plan.

The plot is largely a rehash of the first movie, but at the same time it's more plot focused so that element is a bit stronger. It's not as good as the first, but it's a worthy follow up with some great slapstick.

The part with the Native Amerian mice has not aged well though.

A pale imitation of the original, _An American Tail: Fievel Goes West_ tries to recapture the magic but it’s an obvious knockoff. Once again the Mousekewitz family pulls up stakes in search of the American Dream, this time they head to the Wild West (where they hear tell that mice and cats live together in harmony), but Fievel discovers that it’s all an elaborate mousetrap. The absence of Don Bluth’s influence is readily apparent by the lack of sincerity to the characters and the cartoonishness of the story. However, the voice talents of John Cleese and James Stewart add some charisma to the film. _An American Tail: Fievel Goes West_ is entertaining, but it doesn’t have the charm and sophistication of the original.
