Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out

After a draining December, Sakuta is quickly nearing the end of his second year of high school. Since Mai is a third-year student, they don't have much time left together before graduation rolls around. Meanwhile, his sister, Kaede, is slowly but steadily venturing outdoors again. Just as she begins to find her footing, she announces her most ambitious goal yet—attending her brother's high school! Sakuta knows better than anyone how difficult this will be for Kaede, and he's ready to support her however he can. He's just not sure if that's what's best for her...or what she really wants...

As an arc, it's very little supernatural elements involved, and this adaptation takes what was present and relegates it to more of a teaser than anything else. It's a much more subdued story compared to the ones that came before it, but an important continuation & conclusion of Kaede's previous arcs. While it was a strong novel entry to the series, I don't feel it quite translates to the visual medium quite so well, mostly due to the lack of Sakuta's internal dialogues, further hampered by a production that fails to elevate itself above the typical TV anime standards. While still packing a bit of emotional weight behind the moments that count, it culminates in being a mostly boring affair as not a lot really happens, especially in the grander sense of the series. This could easily have been tied-in to another movie as a side-arc, and while it's already a relatively short movie, could have also been trimmed-down to an OVA or 2-episode run as part of a larger series if they weren't going to commit to their current back-to-back movie productions.
