My Animal

Tormented by a hidden family curse, Heather lives in seclusion on the outskirts of a small town. When she falls for the rebellious Jonny, their connection threatens to unravel Heather's suppressed desires, tempting her to unleash the animal within.
Brings absolutely nothing new to the werewolf genre and it never really shows much in the way of werewolves. Only a few seconds of action and the transformation scene was a let down. I wanted more werewolf action beyond it being solely symbolic.
What really shines here is the queer romance, the drama and the themes of self-discovery. Very moody and depressing in some parts. Interesting characters, character dynamics and performances. Their circumstances and the family drama goes hand in hand with the romance and it creates something I was rooting for. I did however wish Amandla Stenberg's character had more development. Trippy neon lights visuals, love the score and it feels cold with the weather, ice skating rink and atmosphere. Unsatisfying climax.
