I loved Hepburn in this movie. Her character, her horrendous accent, it was all so well done and so believeable. The transformation and all the head-butting along the way is so much fun to watch. My only frustration with the movie is the ending. I could understand her falling for the professor, but she was such a strong, lively character and for the ending to be her going to obediently get his slippers just made me mad. The professor treated her so badly and even if she had chosen to stay with him, I wanted her to keep her backbone. To say she'll stay but that he better get used to getting his own slippers because she wont be staying as his servant!

The film that reminded me how wonderful musicals can be...

this was before La La Land came out.

Technicolor is awesome. Costumes are awesome. Audrey is awesome. She is clearly a language and accent expert. She hides her Dutch accent well. She speaks believably in two versions of British English (can't tell how authentic this really is but it's credible enough). And her Mid-Atlantic accent used to be rather famous anyway. The phonetics part are actually interesting. I'm not sure how scientific this really is. Anyhow, this topic of a class distinction primarily based on accents is fascinating and though they clearly approach this issue in an artistic fashion, this movie gains some intellectual depths by discussing this class issue (All this make it a distant cousin of *"The King's Speech"* btw). Otherwise this would just be a romance. Although I don't really like musicals, this is an overall great picture with some (not all though) great songs.

I don't like some aspects though. The movie is too long. They could have easily cut most scenes with Mr. Doolitle. I don't like his songs anyways. And he doesn't add a unique story. Basically it's Eliza's story all over again. The stage is mediocre. This is clearly a fake stage in a studio. Sure, sometimes I don't care. Like the scenes in Ascot. This fake scenery somehow matches the artistic approach typical for a musical. But due to the fake stages all scenes in the London streets look bad. (The statley professors bachelor's appartement is great though). The story is also very simple to be honest. And the ending is rather disappointing and feels rushed. You see this coming from miles away. I don't like this very traditional outcome.

Best scene: At night, the construction work site in the streets of London is secured with little gas candles so that nobody falls into the holes dug for the new sewage pipes. Thus they exchanged the fall hazard with a fire hazard. That's just awesome.

Old-school Hollywood musicals are not necessarily always my cup of tea. However, “My Fair Lady” is a pretty good movie overall about class divisions and the role of women and men in society. Lead actress Audrey Hepburn is particularly convincing, and the music is also solid. However, the movie takes too much time at the beginning for my taste and is therefore too long overall. And the ending isn't necessarily outstanding either. But all in all, it's a well-made musical movie that still works very well despite its age.

Audrey Hepburn is great. The costumes and set designs are good. For a musical, the songs aren't that great. It's way too long and the story is pretty straight forward. It's well made but not the best movie.

A sobering story about education and social life.

This film is mid AT BEST... and there's no best to be seen. That typed, despite the awful script (yes, it's awful), Hepburn absolutely shines with what she was given (and she wasn't even nominated). On the the other hand, Rex Harrison and the film didn't deserve any of the Oscars, outside of possibly - possibly - costume design... No. I just reviewed the other nominees and it didn't deserve this, either. There's no contest. This isn't opinion. It did NOT deserve them. Not even close. Someone(s) behind this film swayed the votes. Nothing about this film outside of Hepburn's performance and some of the costumes was good. The cinematography and editing, for which is won awards, are bad. The songs are terrible. What really happened?

A difficult film to get through with such a despicable male main character. Eliza deserved better.

There was so much shouting and Hepburn was so over the top in the first act, that it was hard to get through it. But it got better after that.
Also, you can tell this was written by a man because of that BS ending. He treats her like crap and she chooses to go back? GTFO!
