A satirical take on the mundane absurdities of life in modern-day Iran, these nine vignettes illuminate the lighter side of enduring under authoritarian rule. Whether choosing a name for a newborn, graduating from grade school, getting a driver’s license, applying for a job, or seeking approval for a film script, if you live in Iran, you best come fluent in Orwellian discourse. Progressing along a rough timeline from birth to death, each story is shot in a static camera angle as a single petitioner negotiates with an authority figure hovering just outside of frame, who is practiced in the language of doublespeak.

‘Painfully absurd’ scenes about a country where abuse of power is central, and where religious fanatics decide whether you can walk your dog, or what you can name your own child. Whether you can have a boyfriend, wear a Mickey Mouse shirt, or have tattoos. A hip child practising Tik-Tok dances is veiled, causing her innocent cheerfulness to disappear overnight.
Censorship, unfreedom, oppression are the bases of Iranian society. Incredibly sad, and disgusting. An original way of filming with dialogues where each time 1 person remains in the picture and the partners in the conversation outside.

This is what it's really like to deal with an ideological theocratic totalitarian government—comedic and unbelievable to an outsider, but a reality that is torturous and frustrating for those living inside this roofless, vast prison.
