Entertaining movie about the chaos that obsession can lead to: maintaining ideals without subjecting them to criticism and without considering more variables ultimately weakens them and destroys you.

Based on true events, it also tells how the protagonist influenced the entry of feminism into the Spanish Republican left.

[Prime Video] It simplifies the story and turns a woman ahead of her time into a kind of femme fatale, rather than a mother so obsessed with creating a free woman that she ended up taking that same freedom away from her daughter. It turns romance into the main conflict between Hildegart and her mother, which ends up placing it closer to the romantic novels that Aurora rejects as irrelevants, diluting too much the intellectual confrontation about the search for personal independence. The film is defined by Aurora's phrase: "Fiction, by definition, is conservative."

It's watchable. I was expecting a lot more based on the reviews it had. I watched it twice because I found it very thought-out and dense. I understand that it's a true story and it must have been hard, but it sounds like an American thriller.

The true Hildegart and her mother were not so thin.
