The Ritual

Two priests, one in crisis with his faith and the other confronting a turbulent past, must overcome their differences to perform a risky exorcism.

With Hollywood pumping Christian films twisted in Hollywood manner to illustrate that Catholic is bad and scary, thise films kept falling from box office despite their fake praise from paid critics and influencers.
The Ritual, to my surprise, was an apologetic story how those seemingly kind-hearted act of liberals and faithless were in reality the acts of those seduced by the real evils and demons. Those twisted acts destroyed, if not worsened the situation. Returning to the traditional faith of Catholicism was, is and will always be the best course of stepping forward towards saving your own soul.
I needed to clarify the fact that Catholic church wasn't involved in the making or the funding of this film. However, even the actors, writers, director and producers went to this apologetic direction at the end.
The Ritual was also an amazing canvas for Al Pacino to recreate the character of exorcism priest Father Theophilus Resinger. Pacino truly embodied a wise fatherly old man, soft spoken with short yet clear selective wordings. Explosive Pacino, that's a regular act. This soft spoken, thoughtful and fatherly Pacino was a revelation of how powerful Pacino's acting ability truly was. Such a brilliant portrayal and acting prowess.
The talented Dan Stevens was also showcased his acting prowess. Father Joseph Steiger was a learned and serious character. Stevens maintained the creases on his forehead and frown smile throughout the film, making Steiger looking always had intellectual and humanity principles war within himself. The inner struggle that he ended up almost losing soul to demonic's twisted suggestions.
I am personally glad to see this kind of exorcism film because it is closer to exorcism process in Catholic church. Unlike the commercialized fake 2024's The Exorcism or 2023's The Pope's Exorcist with Russel Crowe.
The Ritual was a drama film first, and I don't even think it could enter the category of horror flick. The Ritual was also a low budget drama. It showed very little visual effects and no jump scare.
If you're Christian other than Catholic, you might want to contemplate: If God exists, then demons exist.
I personally love The Ritual and that 98 minutes went by like a breeze and then the film ended.
If you're Catholic or interested in Catholicism, I highly recommend The Ritual.
Dan Stevens is one of my favorites, but exorcism movies are so tiresome as a genre.
Seen it all before and quite dull.
Annoying as hell. Pun intended. π π
Bloody shaky camera, why do they still do it. In a relevant scene yes but not basically the whole movie. Maybe itβs to stop us from seeing the cheap sets and budget costumes!
