I can't stress enough what others said already: Watch the director's cut! It makes all the difference between a watchable movie and a masterpiece. I'm giving 10/10 to the director's cut.
Make sure you watch the Directors cut and not the thetrical one. The last one makes no sense since there is too much film cut-out
I rated this an 8/10 because I'm assuming that this is talking about the theatrical cut. The theatrical is a great movie, it's pretty, it has an amazing setting, the acting is all solid (Even Orlando Bloom does an incredible job), the action is intense, the costume design is amazing and accurate, the sound editing is noticeably good, and the message of the story is strong. however, the theatrical cut also has a semi-broken story where they clearly rushed through certain bits in order to fit it into an "acceptable" run time.
Now the Director's Cut is a definite 10/10. It basically amplifies everything that the theatrical did right by 10, with particular nods to the acting in some of the scenes cut from the original (particularly the scenes at the very beginning where it turns out the Priest is actually supposed to be his half-brother and the scene in the desert with the burning bush). The writing is also noticeably better due to the expansion of the story and allowing many simple but important scenes to run their course instead of being jammed into a rushed story. It has a long run time but if that's going to be the reason why you choose to not watch it, then you probably won't give a shit about the subtly brilliant changes that were made.
Yet another Ridley Scott epic butchered by a theatrical cut. If, like me, you left theaters in 2005 completely underwhelmed and disappointed, hunt down the director's cut if you can.
It doesn't elevate it to "perfect movie" status, few director's cuts do, but it adds a **ton** of context that was bafflingly removed from the theatrical version. Yeah, it's a bit longer and kind of a time commitment, but overall, it's worth watching it in the way Scott intended.
Also, is there any other actor who can play a fun-to-hate antagonist better than Marton Csokas? He and Gleeson practically steal the show by being such hateable heels, especially Gleeson, who looks like he was having the time of his life playing Reynald.
Watched the directors cut, as a casual movie watcher, I really, really enjoyed this movie. The atmosphere of it really intrigued me and the pacing, to me, was brilliant. Amazing music throughout, great battle scenes and beautifully filmed. One of the best films of this category that I've yet seen
As already mentioned in several comments, just watch the Director's cut, it's more than 3h movie but it's a masterpiece.
Should watch the directors cut!
PLEASE watch the directors cut also Baldwin <333
A good movie. some songs are absolute fire. it respects both religions and shows their mutual respect for one another. long drawn out bloody fights. it tries to show the hypocrasy of some who calls themselves religious but do absolute evil. there are life lessons and quotes that they sneak in. which is nice.
i have a issue with how a certain character became a master strategiest though. its like god speaks to him through his heart and tells him to do what exactly must be done. that was kind of off. also the cinematography kinda sucks. didnt need those slowmo, low frame shots they did sometimes.
beside these its a good movie. recommended
An excellent epic movie about the crusades and how the Saladin retook Jerusalem from the christians in the third crusade. Though much of the movie is pure fiction, there is a basis of historic fact underlying the events. The movie also includes some epic battle scenes that alone are worth watching the movie. An excellent Orlando Bloom helps make the movie even more entertaining. Just great entertainment.
