The soundtrack is (sometimes) almost decent, and that's about all this movie has going for itself. The audacity to try and remix the original theme was certainly a choice, as well.

The dialogue is fairly rough, the acting is quite flat (as is the casting. I know not everyone can match their show design, but it kinda feels like nobody really tried to do so here? Just got some randos around the same age?).

The alien CG is kinda bad as well - even if you only go from a design perspective and discard the fact that it's just under 20 years old. Diamond Head looks like a flat rock texture from a PS3 game instead of the crystalline creature he's meant to be, and whilst the others just have "early 2000's CG syndrome", it's still dumb & annoying.

In addition, it makes no sense for Ben to not know about the plumbers, as he learns about them at the end of season 1. You can tell it was added as exposition for the audience in case they haven't seen the show, but it feels incredibly forced if you have seen it.

The villains so obviously being random guys in a helmet & billowy coat really doesn't work for a franchise built around aliens existing and being fairly common. Hell, making this live-action in the first place was such a daft decision I genuinely don't know how it was approved.

At least his actor for the main villain kinda tried. I don't know why he'd put any effort into this, but I gotta give him props for tolerating it long enough to finish filming lol.

Basically every character is so far removed from their personality in the show that it's almost kind of impressive. Max's actor kinda tries, but leans too far into the "he makes weird food lulz" aspect - which was only used for a handful of jokes in the series. There's also the contradiction of Max's wife being dead, but this movie came out like 5 years before the episode of alien force she appears in - so it's just a funny detail more than anything.

Also, how and why the fuck did they drag the poor EMH hologram from Star Trek: Voyager into this boring-ass failed adaptation lol. I guess rent was due or something. As with the villain, I'm kinda impressed that he even tried.

I don't know why I wasted my time watching this. Oh well.
