**Get the keys and hop in your Pontiac.** The aftermath of the storm unfolds in this gorgeously executed crime drama. There's something so tangible about the lead's performance. Watching his descent from blue loner to red drenched gunman was brutal. _Must watch._

A man seeks vengeance for the murder of his parents, but proves to be a poor assassin.

I like what Saulnier has done here, it’s a no bullshit suspenseful thriller but he gives it his own spin by making the protagonist a shivering wreck, yet a wreck on the war path. This is no Jef Costello, Dwight (it’s even a shaky name) can’t fire a gun, go un-noticed or even keep someone in the boot of a car.

However, he pursues his aim of killing a whole family to protect his own, as and a result winds up being both the predator and the prey. Blue Ruin is simply 90 minutes of well-shot, well-thought-out tension. It’s relentless; I actually breathed a sigh of relief when the credits rolled.

A great thriller I wish I’d caught sooner.

I didn't know exactly what to expect from this film. I saw some good reviews around here and it awaked curiosity in me.

This is a film about revenge. We discover that very soon, right at the beginning of the film but in a way that we think we can predict everything that is going to happen next but it's not like that. That's great because some moments turn out to be a surprise.

Blue Ruin has a very dark atmosphere, a beautiful cinematography with the perfect pace to create the tension and the suspense needed throughout the film. Not much is delivered to us so we need to find the pieces of the puzzle and putting them together until the final revelation.

I never saw the lead actor before, Macon Blair, I just know that his performance is something amazing! He really can be very disturbing, we feel his anguish and pain just by his look. He can mess with the audience emotions.

Overall, not perfect but very effective for what it wants to create. It's a good Indie thriller with an excellent lead performance that will touch your emotions. Congratulations to Jeremy Saulnier for his directional debut and writting of this film.

A very effective dark thriller where unlikely assassin Dwight is letting the viewers uncertain if he's gonna pull it off and what's going on in his head. Moody & dark , just as I like it :)

A guy with nothing to lose, turned homeless after a tragic event, who goes to get revenge on a criminal. This has been done countless time, but this one is really original. First this is a regular guy, no special skill, just the desire for revenge. This is no action movie.

Even if he kinda sucks
the deed is actually done quite quickly and you wonder what's the point of the movie now
, but it quickly becomes more complicated. Crazy how the character loses all charisma after shaving though.

Not only do we get more, with
the Cleland also trying to make their own justice
, but everything becomes way greyer when Dwight learns
that the guy he killed didn't actually killed his parents
. Well,
still a criminal apparently, and the whole family is no choir boys
, but still...

This comes to a great ending, him wanting to stop (
two of yours, two of mine
), yet the guy fucks it up by
revealing they were going after his sister
. In the end,
everybody dies, but the younger is safe. Not clear he's aware of who he is though, and how deep he is linked to all that happened
. Quite dramatic, not a nice ending but with a bit of hope. Satisfying.

One think though, kinda stupid to barricade yourself for your last stand, and put your back to a window... Also, pretty sure he had checked the
couch for weapons
, did he forget one ?

Ben is an extraordinary support character. Calm, thoughtful. Knows enough to not push too much, but still
follows him cause he wanna help. And what a shot, while still trying to keep it legal
! Instructs him, helps him, while being aware of what's happening.

Also the intro makes the movie seem from another time, with a police officer trying to take care of a homeless person out of genuine care, like what ?

An underrated low-budget thriller that knocks above its weight class. The main character, Dwight Evans, is a homeless guy living in an old broken-down car. His parents were murdered years earlier in a double homicide, and Dwight finds out the murderer has been released from prison. Dwight’s sister and niece/nephew are in the crosshairs, so he must hatch a plan to not only protect his sister’s family but avenge the murders of his parents. The story takes off from that through twists & turns.

It’s a decent movie that was crowdfunded through a Kickstarter public campaign. Very bloody, violent, and no-nonsense filming style leaves you on the edge of your seat. You get no long-winded cliched speeches with the hero holding up a gun and preaching for 10 minutes to his adversary. There are no flashbacks or anything to slow down the story’s pacing. There is no memorable dialogue, groundbreaking cinematography, or great acting to rave about. What you see is what you get.

Do I recommend it? Not a must-watch, but I enjoyed it. I didn’t expect much going in and got plenty of action.

Like a Jager binge: unpredictable and so fun, but a bit laggy in the end.

After this (and _Green Room_!), I'm convinced Jeremy Saulnier is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. He's the Coen brothers in one package but with a buttload more gore.

An interesting revenge thriller that doesn't tread much new ground, but has a lot going for it. The drab cinematography and minimalist dialogue enhance those violent moments that are shocking and abrupt. It helps that the central character is less heroic and capable than seen in most films of this type, with the filmmakers preferring to emphasise his ordinariness and whilst the film builds to a fairly predictable conclusion, it is equally gripping to watch these developments.
