I gave this movie a shot based on the glowing reviews provided by the likes of Ebert and some other well-known reviewers. I have also been a fan of some of the director's other work, especially The Sweet Hereafter. To be honest I liked the movie but by no means loved it. Several of the reviews mention their lives as being bleak and desperate - I didn't get any of that (certainly not to the degree that I did in The Sweet Hereafter). The end was good and answered a few questions but also introduced new ones (which I also like in a movie).

A decent movie with the usual Atom trademarks. You never know who anyone really is or the relationships, which allows your imagination and anxiety take over. A fragmented story which does the same. I wouldn't say it's my favorite of Atom's but it's solid. I oiked the settings. It didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth, which I actually wanted. The ending wasn't as good as I'd expected but it was OK. Like The Adjuster it's both very real in the events and character journeys but disconnected in presentation. I prefer The Adjuster.
