Leap Year

When yet another anniversary passes without a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Anna decides to take action. Aware of a Celtic tradition that allows women to pop the question on Feb. 29, she plans to follow her lover to Dublin and ask him to marry her. Fate has other plans, however, and Anna winds up on the other side of the Emerald Isle with handsome, but surly, Declan -- an Irishman who may just lead Anna down the road to true love.

I loved this so very much! I mean, what not to like? The view? The humor? The romance? And not to mention how handsome Matthew was... Seriously I don't understand the score and the review, it's such a lovely movie. Yeah another chick flick, but it was just too lovely. It also made me want to visit Ireland so much...

Amy Adams is gorgeous. This movie hasn't aged a bit. I loved it back then, and enjoyed the rewatch today.

Very funny in parts, but a movie with a really good message to it. If you had 60 seconds to grab your most prized possession, what would you grab?

It is always interesting to see Adams earlier work because you could see the talent jumping out of her. I don't know if this movie deserves to be as good as it is (the premise alone can make you roll your eyes), but she absolutely elevates the material. It doesn't hurt that she has good chemistry with the other lead, and that it takes please in an attractive location with an excellent supporting cast (Adam Scott is also fabulous).

Is there such a thing as an Irish fetish? If there is this is the movie for those people.
I expected them to end up together cause duh...Romcom but I didn't expect them to get married. In the end, it felt like they barely tolerated each other. A kiss and the end. Not more needed.
It felt like one of those movies where you imagine yourself as the MC with the added factor of also replacing the dude with any Irish crush. If this one was Jacksepticeye does anyone know a Scottish one so I can cross James McAvoy off the list?

-----

**The Good:**

The humour is pretty worn out and cheap but mostly works. The awkward moments are the best things this film has to offer.

Amy Adams is charming and has lovely chemistry with Matthew Goode but one at all with Adam Scott.

Despite its tried and tested formula, utilization of cheesy stereotypes and a pretty light plot, the string of misadventures and awkward situations Anna finds herself in carries the film forward admirably.

----

**The Bad:**

An American lost in the UK/Ireland/Europe is no need idea and Amy Adams doesn't manage to reinvigorate the concept.

Another "city girl meets country boy" love story with a predictable plot and predictable ending.

What a generic use of Irish traditions, culture and music. Om not sure whether it’s just lazy or even slightly offensive.

----

**The Ugly:**

Tell me again how a motel that only accepts married couples as guests survives financially?

---

**VERDICT:**

_Leap Year isn’t original or inventive in any way, but the warm chemistry between the two leads and an overall good-spirited and fun plot keeps the film going._

**56% = ➖ = UGLY**

A fun and quirky romantic comedy, Leap Year delivers a lot of laughs. A woman frustrated in her relationship decides to pay a surprise visit to her boyfriend while he's on a business trip to Dublin and use an Irish tradition that allows a woman to propose to a man on Leap Day (February 29) to propose to him; but her plans are thrown for a loop when her plane is diverted and she’s forced to hire a guide to get her to Dublin. Amy Adams and Matthew Goode have great chemistry together and delivery some very good performances. And the comedy is well-done, with a nice mix of clever jokes and slapstick. Still, at its core Leap Year is a stereotypical romantic comedy that sticks to formula.

I past on this film for years, I finally decided to watch it on February 29 (leap day). And I'm never watching it again.
