Oh god, what heartbreak. Not the most thrilling filmmaking here, but elevated to grand heights by de Havilland's performance. Somehow her VOICE changes gradually over the course of the movie, hardening into bitterness and resolve in a way that I've never seen before. Clift is of course his wonderful self, and I love the downer ending. Really wonderful.
Great direction, great performances, great movie. Just by looking at their faces or their eyes you see what they think, just like Bella and Edward from Twilight :-)
Nothing really good or bad to say about this one.
He definition of average.
This movie held up pretty well 71 years later. It's very feminist for its time.
