The classic literary works were brought to the movie screen, and I was extremely shocked after watching them.

Amazing movie. I usually don't like drama movies but this one has something special.

Great movie, love the format of following a family through a lifetime. Acting was great, worldbuilding was on point. Emotions hit hard and made you feel invested/heartfelt throughout its entirety.

This is one of the best Chinese movies I've ever seen. But that's been censored in China due to some sensitive problems about that part of history that might undermine government's ~~beautiful~~ image. People deserve to know the truth, and let them make their own decisions.

A strong counter propaganda narrated in the confines of a nuclear family and its interactions with an ism that does somewhat work to aid the lower classes but demands a steep price in return. However, the perseverance of human life is what attracts most and promotes a sense of optimism, which is very unusual for thorough melodrama like this one.

Such a delicate and beautiful sad film. Interpreting the tales of Mao Zedong era trough the eyes of this family and what those decades brought to its citizens. Very touching.
