Evolution

I love movies that does not leave my thoughts for long time. This is definitely one of those. One of most fascinating imagery I've seen in recent times. Some breathtaking scenes (literally :) ), despite having disappointing ending, I hold this film very close to my mind.

One of the most unusual films I have seen in a long time. Whilst the synopsis above labels the film as drama, mystery and horror, it is really none of these things in its entirety. There are elements of each but the film stands within its own genre, for good and bad. I didn't necessarily enjoy the film but I don't think I was supposed too. Its weird and is all the better for it.

Well, it's pretty. If you like movies with minimal dialogue, a lot of people staring at each other, and zero plot, give it a go. Everyone else...don't waste your time. There's just nothing here to really get into, and the only reason I'll remember it is because it made me feel pretty gross watching those poor boys.

Two stars for the stunning imagery - not much else to say, sadly. I know better than to trust a movie that has a much higher critical consensus than audience score (80% vs 45% on Rotten Tomatoes? woof), but I gave this a shot because it was on a list I saw of the "100 best movies on Netflix." This is the type of movie I may have liked in my late teens/early 20s when I was really into tragic, beautiful indie and foreign films that didn't really make sense but did manage to be RIDIC pretentious. Even though it tries hard to be unsettling horror, it never quite gets there. As other reviews I've seen around the internet have mentioned, this movie isn't going to answer any of the questions you have:

[spoiler]Why do these women have suckers, and why did they decide to use small boys (no uterus, bodies too small to hold a fetus if we're being honest) to be their incubators? Why does the nurse feel some inexplicable affinity just for the main character and help him but not the other boys? What's with the weird pedophilia-like vibes? Why do all these ladies have bleached eyebrows and eyelashes, just to make them look creepier??[/spoiler] All these questions and more can be completely unanswered if you decide to watch this crap movie!!

Had some amazing imagery in it. However had a pedophile type feel to it that left me feeling very uncomfortable. Won't be recommending this to anyone.
