Surprisingly good. Not a summer blockbuster superhero movie, but one with a heart that doesn't replace acting skills with special effects.

“They Call Me Jeeg” is a down-to-earth, delightfully Italian answer to blockbuster superhero films. It’s built on a semi-realistic portrayal of the lowlife of Roman suburbs and characters that are miles away from the glamorous, idealized archetypes of American superheroes. On his directorial debut, Gabriele Mainetti prefers bittersweet comedy and simple crime stories over bombastic fights and action-packed sequences. Unlike other anti-heroes like Hancock or Deadpool, Hiro’s introverted and clumsy personality makes him realistic and relatable, and his relationship with Alessia is depicted in a bare and honest way. Gipsy also works incredibly well as the sleazy villain, with his over-the-top persona that perfectly balances Hero’s introversion. It’s definitely way above the standards of the genre, but despite the strong characters and grown-up themes, the plot tends to be a bit too childish and heavily derivative of old superhero cartoons, with both the dramatic moments and the action sequences being not as incisive as they were meant to be. The beating heart is there, but cannot make up for the lack of focus on the plot and writing.

Extremely fun indie / foreign super hero film. While the film may have had too many middles, the real surprises didn't come from the script, but *incredible* supporting roles by Ilenia Pastorelli as the love interest and Luca Marinelli as the villain. A recommended watch!

They Call Me Jeeg

A good film by first-time director Gabriele Mainetti, They Call Me Jeeg is a work that surprised me more than I expected.

Semi-realistic genre, Jeeg goes against the banal superhero movies (Marvel, DC) and brings something new.

Claudio Santamaria, Ilenia Pastorelli and Luca Marinelli very good.

The film however has some nonsense scenes and unnecessary for the continuity of the film, however it remains a film to see absolutely

6.5/10

Really good performances from the actors but I expected a better script.

What is wrong with you people and the high ratings! Ultra trash, ultra b-movie, master of the boring and what the heck Italian cinema is proud of this crap.

Google Turkish Superman, similarities of that show and how awful both are. Well that show is better than this movie.
