I might be an adult but such films always make me happy. This one is cool to watch with (and without lol) children.
So don't hesitate and do watch it !

I am pretty sure this works well for kids but I must say I found it only slightly amusing at times and in general not very good.

Yeah, it almost seems that nowadays it is impossible to make a 3D movie without aliens involved. It felt like a compilation of X other similar movies. And unfortunately not a spectacular clone at all.
