I just there were more dramatic scenes of the sounds of nazis drowning. Other than that, this movie is the best film of 2020 so far.

EXPLANATION: For this movie to make sense to most, you'll need a basic understanding of the German U-boats at the time. While technically they could fire a torpedo while under, technologically they had to have line of sight confirmation of their target, aka visual confirmation. This was done with the periscope, so they had to come up far enough for the periscope to clear water level. This made them just as vulnerable in a day attack as the destroyers, although still harder to hit targets.

Once you understand above, then you can watch the battles without being confused compared to more recent sub movies that often depict entire underwater battles between subs.

That being said, this is one of the best tactical movies I've watched in a long time. While it's not the blood and gore many expect from a war movie, the reality of the Skipper's responsibility is well done. The Captain and XO would often be up for days, as would much of the crew, even though they would have shift changes and time away from whatever their responsibilities were. A great example was getting the sonar chief when it was acting up. The senior officers didn't have this luxury and the no shoes are comfortable that long on your feet is spot on. (If you watch it, you'll get it.)

Anyway, it's character development is lacking. I think it could've been a little longer to develop the beginning. Build up the relationship between the CO and XO. There could've been more during the burial, before and after. Since this is told exclusively from the CO's point of view though, I guess it was missing more because that's the job. It also could've provided more explanation at the end than just 2 sentences about 72,000+ lives lost.

But that being said, if you want to know what a ship's captain experienced back then this is one of the finest films made. Seriously. He's taking everything being reported to him and calculating all of it. The crew often is expected not to second guess, but hard for a newbie Skipper to earn that level of trust. The film conveys that too with the looks of both officers and enlisted back and forth.

9.6/10.

_Greyhound_ is an exceptional historical movie that offers a thrilling and intense portrayal of the Battle of the Atlantic during World War II. Tom Hanks delivers a powerful performance as the commanding officer of a US Navy destroyer, leading his crew through dangerous waters and battling German U-boats. The film's attention to detail and historical accuracy make it an excellent representation of the era and the naval warfare of the time. The action sequences are intense and engaging, and the film's pacing keeps the audience invested in the story.

The cinematography, the acting, the score, it all delivers. The trailer left an impression that it would be just another _'Merica back to back world war champs_ type of movie, probably by design to draw people to watch it. It was unnecessary. The story may be simple, but it's the perspective from which it is told that makes the movie superb. Hanks wrote a hell of a movie which was executed quite well for a relatively inexperienced director.

Meet her.
