i still think this is the cutest, purest love story and them not wanting to go back to "the real world" is honestly the biggest mood.

The movie is quite nice. The acting is not that bad, a classic film that takes viewers on a captivating journey of survival and self-discovery. The film tells the story of two young cousins who become stranded on a deserted tropical island after a shipwreck.

The film's strongest asset is its breathtaking cinematography. The lush, exotic setting of the island, with its crystal-clear waters, pristine beaches, and lush vegetation, provides a stunning backdrop for the unfolding drama. Cinematographer Néstor Almendros skillfully captures the beauty of the natural surroundings, making it a character in its own right.

The movie shows quite some nudity which suits the story, but makes you wonder about the real life for a second. Brooke Shields was only 14 years old here. Let that sink in please.

A classic take on Robinson Crusoe with children that have to discover life without adult supervision.

A visually beautiful and sensual film, judged by 80s standards. Christopher Atkins, despite being a newcomer, delivers a surprisingly solid performance as Richard — capturing innocence and keeping a steady pace throughout. Brooke Shields feels stiffer, more like a product of direction than raw talent.

It’s almost impossible to watch this film today without acknowledging its controversies. Even back then, it pushed boundaries by sexualizing its young cast in ways that would never fly today — and rightly so.

Beyond that, authenticity takes a hit. Perfect manicures on a deserted island? Ageless characters after years in the wild? It all adds to the sense of fantasy over realism.

Still, The Blue Lagoon holds a strange place in film history — both as a romantic survival tale and as a relic from a time with very different norms.
