The Reckoning

In the aftermath of the Great Plague and amidst the subsequent witch-hunts against women, a young widow grapples with the tragic death of her husband in a society completely consumed by fear and death. Because she rejects the advances of her landlord, she is falsely accused of being a witch and thrown in jail for a crime she didn’t commit. She must endure physical persecution at the hands of England’s most ruthless witch-hunter and face her own inner demons as the devil himself starts to work his way into her mind.

Lee Brown Barrow Movie Buff

After the disappointing Hellboy reboot, Marshall is back on form here. He evokes the time period well and delivers an atmospheric take on a dark period of history. Admittedly, the ‘reckoning’ of the final third might be stretching credibility but after the harrowing events leading up to it, it was enjoyable to see it play out.

Solid slow burn horror drama about false accusation and misogyny in the 1600s with great storyline, excellent performances from the cast and great production overall. I love a strong female lead in horror films! It's not without its flaws though, I feel like it's 20 minutes too long, there are some unnecessary flashbacks, the pacing could be better, but overall it's a good watch.

I felt like this was going to be darker than it turned out to be.

Slower type of movie but it's medieval times. Things moved a bit slower then.

Started somewhat acceptable but by half I was praying for it to end. Tries to incorporate too much, in little effort at the wrong time.
