Charming and creepy in roughly equal measure, this movie takes the traditional "frustrated teen sex comedy" and exposes the dark incel underbelly of the patriarchy at its core. Anchored by a marvelous performance by Jane Asher as the object of desire (by three men) as well as by some striking production design and color choices, I loved it. Standout scene was that poor kid eating so many hot dogs.
The ending was odd and rather unsatisfying. But the rest of the movie was very enjoyable. A hidden 70's gem.
Not knowing anything about this, at first I thought it was going to be a terrible cheesy sex romp. When it gets going it's not back. Most all all it makes you think about your own experiences and near experiences. Jane Asher has a really good character to play. She's a complex mix of very simple selfish desires. I suppose this movie is about getting mixed up in that kind of woman. Mike just kind of floats on by from one stalker thing to the next. If never really sinks in that he's actually a hit weird.
What an incredibly weird mess. Seriously. Not sure if there's a single aspect of this movie that isn't weird. Which doesn't necessarily make it bad, fwiw, but it's... certainly an experience.
