THE Best Alien-Attack Movie Of All-Time!
All the new flicks like "Skyline", "Battle L.A." and $#!+ are nothing against Roland Emmerich's work. And it's from 1996 - imagine that...
Anyway I'm really excited about Part 2 comming 2013.

Happy Independence Day everybody ;)

This is just some of the best science fiction action movies that the nineties have to offer.
I am not going to tell more, you just have to go and see for yourself.

Almost 30 years since I first saw this movie, I finally managed to watch this in 4K HDR today. Looks like they have remastered the original negative into 4K. It looks beautiful, the explosions and spaceship scenes pop with 10bit colour. It felt like I'm part of the action. What a great movie.

I've already given this a 10/10 when I last watched Independence Day in 2021 (in 1080p). I never thought it could get any better from a picture quality. It did.

ID4 blew the door wide open to the sci-fi action genre. It was the birth of the blockbuster. Is it perfect ? That depends on how you view it. You can find flaws in any movie. The question is how much you let it affect you. Are there logic issues ? Yes. Does it matter ? No, because it is entertaining as hell and the story is much better then dozens of movies that came after this. Despite the fact it is now over 20 years old it has aged well. My opinion has always been that life photography SFX ages better than CGI.
In any case it is way better than the re-quel

Are there stupid things that happen in ID4? Sure. Checked reality lately? Stupid things happen all the time. But so do heroic things. As well as evil. Typical fare for the ancient tragedies. I believe ID4 carries on that ancient and honorable tradition: entertainment. And viewing it as a work of art, I must say that I was impressed over and over again while watching this film: where most of the studios would have wussed out or flinched, these film makers didn't. They stepped up to the plate and tried to beat the ball to death over and over again with their bat.

Back in 1996, this movie felt like a miracle, especially if you were lucky enough to catch it in theaters. Even today, I still get chills when the ships first enter the atmosphere, and no one really knows what's happening. I remember my heart nearly stopping during the destruction scene as soon as the countdown ended. The sound and visuals were truly breathtaking at the time. Sure, the movie might be full of clichés and some pretty cringe moments, but I still think it's one of the best sci-fi movies out there and definitely Roland Emmerich's best film.
