If you like a good ole Satanic thriller, and who doesn't, this is for you. Depp is enjoyably tuned-down. The score is so haunting, I couldn't get it out of my head, so I bought it on CD (remember those??). The plot is a bit sloppy towards the end, and there are plenty of unanswered questions, but worth watching at least once.
I just like the mood of this movie and the performance of Johnny Depp. Sure, especially the ending is criticised by some and it is also not what I like most about the movie. I invite you to watch it and make up your own mind.
Maybe a bit slow and long for some. I didn't mind the pace. I liked the mystery. I liked the characters. I liked the music. It did have a creepy atmosphere but it could have been amplified at times. The spoilers are where the movie gets good.
MAJOR SPOILERS
Was the girl Lucifer is disguise? She seemed to be judging Corso and even looked pleased when he eventually killed someone. Corso was immoral but I don't think he was evil. In the end when corso and the girl were having sex, I think Corso knew who she was. Lets not forget that the girls floats in mid air, so it was pretty obvious she was at least and angel or something. But In the end Corso gave himself up. He was willing after temptation. He fell in love maybe. And the devil was on his his shoulder the whole time during the movie.
He was already moderately sinful at the beginning, and that was a great start to the character. I liked how Lucifer wasn't interested in stereotypical worshippers or people obsession with her, but wanted to manipulate. The girl or Lucifer is even seen reading How to win friends and influence people in the lobby. After all Corso is the one who approached the girl, who also has the appearance of two faces in a reflection. The devil has two faces remember.
This is a movie to re-watch for sure. I can see why it went over people's heads as it's so subtle and makes the viewer work hard for clues, not that it's an insanely complex plot. But one thing still evades me, and that's why Lucifer wears odd socks? Pure evil
Entertaining, if somewhat predictable little mystery with decent acting and good dialog. I like the end but I suspect it may not be to everyone's taste. Quite underated in my opinion.
I can't say it wasn't - at least to a point- entertaining to watch, but still this movie felt as if it didn't offer much of anything. It was (a kind of) entertaining waste of time.
I just watched this for the first time. Well... it’s terrible. This movie aged pretty bad I guess. Maybe it was looking better or modern in 1999, but today this is a kind of a B movie. A mess.
Could have been much better. Interesting story, but it gets a bit messy and the ending is terrible.
Idea: 6, production: 4, acting: 5 (Seigner: 1), music: 7. Summary: I do not recommend.
Well, I had a hard time enjoying this one. Equally stupid and boring.
Very boring. A struggle to get through with 0 payoff. I don't know why this film fares so well with some audience, I just don't see it.
