I haven't watched a movie like this for a long time and every scene reminded me of Divergent. I really like movies with this kind of theme. The acting, effects and script are great. I liked it a lot. It's impossible not to like movies like this anyway. As you can see in the last scene, the woman is very beautiful. So it seems like she'll be in the second movie. I can't wait. I added it to my favorites. Thank you for your efforts, it's a great production.
Just as I imagined reading the book. Perfect!
I'm not sure what movie others were watching, but perhaps they hadn't read the books. I always enjoy a film _after_ reading the book because my mind fills in the gaps (as long as the adaptation isn't a mess.)
I have only read the first book, and I very much enjoyed this. Unlike poor adaptations that place things in all the wrong places, counter to the reader's imagination, this depiction didn't violate any of my mental world for this book. That is probably a tribute to Scott Westerfield's skill in describing things, as some authors are far too ambiguous—how often have you gotten several pages or even chapters in, and suddenly the author drops in a "left" or "right" which completely flips the entire mental world?
I was puzzled why Dr Cable wasn't "pretty" according to the same ideal used for the other characters. On the other hand, seeing the "Sillies" (a much more accurate term) onscreen was quite impactful. It's always a shame that all the subtleties of a book can't be fleshed out onscreen due to time constraints, but I found this film to be very well done, and I hope to see more.
8 +1 for accuracy
Great premise, great casting a probably the best young adult adaptation since Hunger Games. Now I definitely need to read the entire book series!
Honest opinion from someone who hasn't read the book: I thought the movie was very good. The idea is very fresh. The actors do a great job. I liked the sci-fi elements best. The only thing that bothered me a little: I would have liked a deeper insight into this technology. How were these operations developed and how exactly do they work? You've seen the instruments that are used, but what exactly do they do? Perhaps this will be explained more in the book. The cliffhanger at the end was nasty. I hope the other volumes will also be made into films. A really exciting series with potential. Please don't let it end like Divergent.
I've always said the first major problem with an Uglies movie is do you have regular people in beautiful makeup or pretty people in ugly makeup.
This movie chooses the worst of both worlds. Hot actors in Instagram filters. Visually it was never going to work in showing Uglies vs Pretties. But aside from that the movie was pretty fine. I've never been into Joey King aesthetically and neither her Ugly phase nor her Pretty phase do anything for me. But there's a lot to like here. Unfortunately none of it involves hoverboards. Those effects look awful and floaty. The casting is fine though (pretty/ugly aspects aside). I think the pacing of the movie could have been better. I think this feels like about the length I remember from The Hunger Games and what I want is more about the length I remember from Divergent. The most frustrating part of the movie is that it felt like it was going too swiftly. Now I've read McG talking about how they had to trim Tally's journey to the Smoke and I get that one but everything else feels like she was there overnight and then the next phase happens repeat for every set.
I think the themes of the book didn't come through as strongly in the movie. And that's only 10% because they're less relevant.
The next big problem this movie is going to have is that _Pretties_ and _Specials_ are rather repetitive books. I think these are the ones where good direction can really shape them into something more interesting. And I'm hoping some of the changes they've made in the movie really pay off in those movies.
I think if i watched this as a teenager i would've loved it. If I'd read the books as a teen I'd be obsessed. As an adult im not sure, but i enjoyed it. It was fun. Insane cast, stacked specifically for me. I love the young adult sci-fi genre. I think this was kinda camp and fun
why is everyone hating?? I haven't read the books, so I can't tell if its a good adaptation. However I liked it, it has amazing visual effects and a great cast.
What a crap ending!! Did she take the cure or not!!
This must have been a joke. Everyone was pretty.
