The Advent Calendar

Eva, an ex-dancer, is now living in a wheelchair, unable to walk. When her friend Sophie gives her an old wooden antique advent calendar before Christmas, she realizes each window contains a surprise that triggers repercussions in real life: some of them good, but most of them bad... Now Eva will have to choose between getting rid of the calendar or walking again… even if it causes death around her.
Another great holiday horror. It's scary, tense, and overall provides disorienting but fun experience. It follows Eva, who's been paraplegic for the past three years. She receives a strange advent calendar as a birthday gift. But instead of the traditional sweets, every day reveals something different, sometimes pleasant but often terrifying, and increasingly bloody. It's a film about consequences of what you wish for. Feels more dark comedy to me and it's one of those film that require you to throw logic out of the window to enjoy it. The whole film is ridiculous and nonsensical. There are so many different elements and amazingly all of those played out so harmoniously. I was totally invested. The performance of Eugénie Derouand is highly convincing. It's also well-shot and the deaths are inventive. The ending isn't as satisfying as I'd hope but overall, a nicely done suspenseful Christmas horror.
