Stone's war not for effects, but for humanity...
Rating: 4.25* / 5* or 8.5 / 10
I think it was good that a less heroic and more truthful and crude reality of what the Vietnam War was was portrayed. They obviously did not want to be there and were mostly young or poor people who were used as cannon fodder. Although at the beginning of the war there was popular support, as time went by they began to think that it was a senseless war and to question what they were doing there.
Visually it is good. I really liked the settings and the effects. I really liked the fact that they gave a certain depth to the members of the platoon so that each one had certain traits and personality. The film has a certain attention to detail that I think adds to it.
The film deals with several crude issues that are not always talked about in this type of film since sometimes they are mere propaganda that seeks to justify what was done in that conflict and to give a facelift to history. Within this, there is also a very important theme, which is moral questioning, but although the film deals with these themes and I think it is very good, I think it does so in a simplistic way. There is a recognition that what they do is wrong, but it is a pure natural feeling and there is no real question of "Why is it wrong?" and even more importantly "How wrong is it?" I feel that it does not go into that in depth.
A movie that flawlessly depicts the struggles of jungle warfare in Vietnam. Enjoyed this film
A classic in anti-war movies the boasts an all star cast that delivers. The movie addresses the fact that for crimes were also committed by the Americans during the Vietnam war and the fact that they were often tried to be denied. A excellent movie with namely a brilliant performance by Willem Defoe.
A really great war movie. It feels very grounded, nothing too over the top. It's more about the people fighting and how it effects them. I thought Charlie Sheen was great and Willem Dafoe was fantastic.
A really great war film that's truly devasting I love how we see the effect on the characters just as much as the effects of the actual war. Both are shown just the right amount of time to show the effect of the war. Charlie Sheen is really good and Willem Dafoe is great.
8/10
Great War movie, loved the fact that this movie focuses on the effect it has on the soldiers. The battle with keeping their humanity. Charlie Sheen was great, but Willem Dafoe was outstanding. The way he died was truly heartbreaking, amazingly shot by the crew. They captured the moment so well!!
Can highly recommend this
as a combat veteran, this is the closest hollywood got to the reality of being on the frontline
Amazing movie about war and the impact that it has on men. Some really impactful and impressive stuff. And man, what a joy to see the young faces of all these amazing actors. Did they realize back then how much of these actors were going to be big stars? My god.
