The Running Man (1987) - ❤x8

I rewatched this again tonight - and my first thought was - WOW!! this movie is 38 years old - and - boy oh boy when did I get so old.

This story was set in 2017 and was far ahead of it's time. If it had been set in 2025 it would have nearly matched our current reality - which is a very sad thing. I'm thinking the writers must have seen into the future for their material but just got the year wrong.

**Part of my 2022 Action Wednesdays**

I guess this could just as well been a part of my Sci-Fi Tuesdays, but to me, The Running Man has always been an action movie first and foremost, and… I just got this on Blu-ray and didn't want to wait to see it.

I truly love the book The Running Man by Richard Bachman (Pen name for Stephen King), which only have a passing resemblance to what became this Schwarzenegger action movie, but that might be why I manage to like both of them. The movie is so different that they can both be good.

The biggest difference between the book and the movie, is the fact that this movie does NOT take itself very seriously. It actually flirts with parody in a few cases. This is totally different in the book, which is rather serious in its tone.

Well...enough about that. There are of course the usual Arnie things here. The cheesy one liners, the strong man fights, etc etc., but it's all very entertaining. When the show starts, it rarely lets up until the end.

The Running Man is a cheesy action extravaganza. Well worth a watch!!!

A classic from Arnie. Even if the special effects of the movie seem sometime cheap and the story is cartoonish, it is still excellent entertainment seeing Arnie in a yellow jumpsuit running for his life. A classic in 1980s action-SciFi.
