"Mother."

'Voyage of Time: Life's Journey' is a documentary that isn't meant to be enjoyed but to be experienced, which I know sounds cliche, but just because something may seem cliche doesn't mean it's not true.

In this documentary, Terrence Malick takes us through the evaluation of the universe, nature, and human life. Breath-taking shots throughout with the camera picking up every detail that the human eye fails to spot. From the deepest part of outer space to the concrete cities of earth.

Malick movies are the light, the air, the wind, the water, and the definition of wholesome. If you’re familiar with Malick’s other work, then I say check this one out. Not for mainstream audience that’s for sure.

Remember those beautiful insert clips in Malick's "Tree of Life"? Imagine 90 minutes of just that - and pretty much nothing else, other than Cate Blanchett somewhat incoherently mumbling half-sentences in voice-over every so often.

Granted, here and there you'll also have small clips from our current society, but don't go into this thinking you're going to get anything resembling a story, or characters, or traditional dialogue. It really feels more like one of those art installation "movies" that create an interesting atmosphere, offer some amazing visuals, and - if you're lucky - make you kind of meditate on life, the universe and everything. The trailer offers a pretty good feeling for what you're going to get, though it implies a bit more voiceover and coherence than the movie has to offer.

So, if you're a fan of Malick's films and know what you're getting yourself into, go ahead, you just might have a great time with this. If not, manage your expectations. Again, this is not a "movie" in the traditional sense. Treat it like a documentary B-Roll full of great, soothing imagery and atmosphere, but devoid of almost everything else. Treat it like a 90 minute spiritual, meditative journey through time and space. Maybe even just put it on in the background to relax and ponder life. But don't go into this with wrong expectations, otherwise you'll probably be disappointed and bored out of your mind.

I wanted to watch this because of the narration of Cate Blanchett. Then I read Terrence Malick and my enthusiasm hit rock bottom. Watched the first 10 minutes and my worries were confirmed. If you have a problem with Malicks movies, don´t bother. Im sure this is not for you.
